Thandiwe Muriu is a Kenyan artist known for creating surreal illusions using vibrant kitenge fabric, reflecting themes of womanhood and identity. A self-taught photographer, she discovered her passion at 14 and quickly gained recognition in the male-dominated advertising industry, culminating in her first solo campaign by age 23 and working with major East African companies by 2019. Her initial project, the Camo series, emerged from her experiences as a woman in this field, pushing her artistic boundaries while blending cultural practices and contemporary issues. Today, Muriu's work is represented in prestigious collections, including the Collection Gervanne + Matthias Leridon and the Fondation Gandur pour l’Art, and she is acknowledged as a rising star in contemporary photography.
