Kurt Mutchler is the senior science photo editor at National Geographic magazine. Most recently, he was awarded Magazine Picture Editor of the Year by the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) in 2023 and 2021. His work has also been recognized by The Society of Publication Designers, the Overseas Press Club of America, The Association of Magazine Media, and the Society for News Design. He is a former adjunct professor at the Corcoran College of Art + Design in Washington, D.C., where he taught photojournalism.
